All Saints Oratory is a 40 seat chapel designed and furnished in the simplicity of the Franciscan tradition, the Rule, Constitution and Directory of our community, the Brothers and Sisters of Charity and the norms set forth by the Bishop of Saint Augustine.  The seating is arranged antiphonally and in the monastic church tradition, the Ambo is opposite the Altar at the entrance to the chapel.  The name was chosen after much prayer and the always present reality that we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses.  We hope that All Saints Oratory is as the Irish say, "a thin place where Heaven and Earth meet".

We are truly blessed by the sacred trust and spiritual support of our Bishop, Victor Galeone of the Diocese of Saint Augustine by receiving his permission to Reserve the Blessed Sacrament in the chapel. We have also made additional arrangements to move the Blessed Sacrament to our Library prayer room tabernacle if a meeting or conference is held that warrants it.

        All Saints Oratory Chapel Norms

All Saints Oratory and those members of the Brothers and Sisters of Charity who reside permanently or visiting at The Open Gate Retreat Center under the guidance of the Holy Spirit subscribe and submit to the Rule, Constitution and Directory of the Brothers and Sisters of Charity at Little Portion Hermitage, Berryville, Arkansas and those norms and conditions established by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Saint Augustine Florida.  The norms here enumerated are in the character and spirit of Chapter 1 (par 11) and Chapter 6 (par 75) of the Monastic Directory and Chapter 2 (paragraphs 16-17) in the Domestic Directory plus a letter dated Feb. 27, 2008 from the Bishop of Saint Augustine.

The Reservation of the Blessed Sacrament at All Saints Oratory is with the specific permission of The Most Reverend Victor Galeone, Bishop of the Diocese of Saint Augustine Florida in the Year of Our Lord February 26, 2008.

1.                  The Oratory will be appropriately adorned with icons and statuary in compliance with the US Conference of Catholic Bishops guidelines and chapter 6 (par 76) of the BSC Monastic Directory which  will be our guide in recognizing that poverty and simplicity of furnishings and décor are integral to the life of the Oratory without sacrificing the dignity of Sacred Space. Seating will be in the monastic tradition with those praying facing each other entering past a lectern with the Readings for the day opposite the altar.  In keeping with ancient traditions of the church, the Oratory and altar are oriented to due East.

2.                 Every opportunity will be made to celebrate the Mass when a priest is in residence or as a guest for retreats or available locally following Lauds.  Mass will be celebrated at least twice a month per the direction of the Bishop.  Liturgy of the Hours Eucharistic Service will be held only in the absence of a priest under the guidelines and norms established by the church for Reservation of the Eucharist with the local approval, governance, and blessing of the Roman Catholic Ordinary of the Diocese of Saint Augustine Florida.  Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will be held at the request of retreatants and at other times appropriate such as community gatherings of the Brothers and Sisters.

3.                  While recognizing the painful reality of disunity within the Christian tradition, All Saints Oratory will be a place of welcome, loving embrace and ecumenical gathering for all of our brothers and sisters in Christ who seek a place of prayer. The Catholic identity of the Oratory, utmost reverence for the Eucharist particularly guidelines set forth by the church governing reception of the Real Presence will be preserved at all times.

4.                  The Oratory is a place of reverent and sacred quiet aware at all times of the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.   At appropriate times that do not interfere with organized times of prayer and liturgical celebration, it will be used as a place for teaching, sacred study and community gathering.
